Life Glow opened in 2001 with twelve children and one conviction: that a primary school should know every child by name, and teach them properly.
L ife Glow began in a rented bungalow with twelve children, two teachers and a headmistress who believed that the early years are not a rehearsal for education but the whole of it. Twenty-five years later the conviction has not changed, only the number of children who benefit from it.
We teach the British National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage, enriched with Nigerian history, Yoruba and Igbo, and a civic programme that takes every class out into the community each term.
Classes are capped at eighteen. Every child reads aloud to an adult every day. Nobody slips through, because in a school this size there is nowhere to slip to.
That every child who passes through this school leaves it literate, numerate, curious and kind — and knows they were known.
To teach the fundamentals thoroughly and gently, in classes small enough that no child is a stranger to their teacher.
